The Marrying Man
By teacher mom
Cat's a successful, bestselling author whose family and home are a complete mess. A widow raising five children, her house is overrun with children, animals, toys, and clutter. Her agent sends help her way in the form of Riley, a "time management specialist" who's hired to whip her life into shape so she will be more productive. Unfortunately, Cat wants nothing to do with the handsome cowboy, and he wants nothing to do with family life. Cat and Riley are thrown together by a bet first, and then a viral illness that sweeps through the family and forces Riley to stay put a while longer in the midst of Cat's chaotic world. The longer Riley stays, the more he realizes what's missing from his orderly existence: family.
This novella had its moments, and the premise was interesting enough, but I found the actual romantic storyline between Riley and Cat quite unbelievable. ***SPOILER ALERT: I can't believe that someone who feels so strongly against marriage and family would change his mind and be ready to propose marriage to his complete opposite within a few days. They did not have time to develop any sort of relationship--even friendship--before declaring themselves in love. In fact, during their time "together" in the house, they are constantly separated--taking care of the children, organizing the house, etc. They have precious few moments to talk with each other, and never once have a real heart-to-heart Riley never reveals his lack of family and upbringing to Cat, and Cat never tells him about her ex-husband. (He only finds out about her ex-husband from her children and photo albums.) With 5 small children, any responsible mother would not rush into such an engagement, and it's ridiculous to pretend so for the sake of a silly plot. I enjoyed many parts of the story, until the ending, when it became so outrageous as to ruin any enjoyment whatsoever.

Enjoyable book for a lazy afternoon
By Sue Reviews
This book was well written and carried my interest through the whole thing. This book holds true to the old saying "opposites attract". It was a heartwarming story. The author does a nice job of weaving the history of the main characters life so you understand what.made them tick. I really don't have anything I could criticize about this story. I enjoyed it. I didn't award it 5 stars because it isn't really the type of book you will remember much past the few hours it takes to read. Still, it is a nice way to spend a few hours.k

Poignant and Sweet
By Sheiglagh
Best seller mystery author Cat O'Leary Zaslow needs help organizing her life. With 5 kids, a variable number of pets and a need to meet her publisher's deadline, Cat's agent Max hired Riley McKendrick, one of the best time-management honchos in the business.
Cat did not want her time "managed" and Riley did not do "domestic", but the sparks that flew between them made it impossible for them to just walk away. On a bet, Cat accepted Riley's challenge that he could make Cat's household the epitome of efficiency within 48 hours.
***SPOILER ALERT***
The reason why Riley does not do domestic was because he was raised in a series of foster homes. With all of his relatives gone before he was even four years old, Riley did not know how it is to have a family.
Cat's life was full because of her 5 children. She did not even know that she was missing romance in her life until she laid eyes on Riley. But, Riley was upfront in saying that he is not a marrying man. So, though there was a mutual attraction between the two of them, Cat cannot look forward to a happily ever after.
A PG-13 romance, "The Marrying Man" is more about family love than romantic love. Poignant and sweet, it was heartbreaking reading about Riley and how he grew up and how he kept himself apart so that he will not be hurt. How the children was able to melt his heart is as important as how he fell in love with Cat.
Not a tearjerker by any means, but Riley will tug at your heart the same it he tugged Cat's heart.
