Gr 10 Up—This nontraditional guide helps readers to determine how to live their lives. Put together by Roadtrip Nation, a nonprofit educational organization that encourages young people to pursue their aspirations, the book is comprised of three different parts, each with a theme: letting go of others' expectations; defining one's values, interests, and passions; and achieving one's goals. Breaking up the text are inspirational photos, illustrations, and quotes by individuals interviewed for the Roadtrip Nation project. Engaging and comprehensive, the content is clearly organized, letting readers stop and start whenever they choose. The index will help teens more easily navigate this volume. The last few pages are left blank so that users can take notes—which may make it a less than suitable purchase for libraries. The inclusion of seven projects add a valuable interactive element. VERDICT Fans of self-help books will greatly enjoy and benefit from this highly accessible read.—Jess Gafkowitz, New York Public Library
Review
"This book is not going to solve all your problems for you; let's just get that out of the way. What it will help you to do is ask the right questions; not "what am I supposed to be doing?" but "what do I love doing?" -Veronica Belmont, Technology and Gaming Host
"Excellent for new graduates, midlife job seekers, and anyone who desires a change." -Library Journal
"I can't tell you how thrilled I am to see new books on the self-help shelf that rattle our idea of what belongs there. Roadmap expands our definition of what to expect from the genre and what to expect of ourselves-- really helps to blow the dust off the old picture." - Jenn Witte, Bookseller, Skylight Books
"Roadmap proves that a life catered to our own unique strengths and interests is not only possible, but with the right tools and insight provided, something we can start pursuing today." -Datev Gallagher, aka Ladiedottie, YouTube Celebrity
"This book is a great reminder of why we should always follow our dreams and never settle. It's inspiring, motivating, fun, emotional, and so much more. It's an honor to be included with such talented role models."-Ariel Helwani, MMA Reporter: FoxSports and MMAfighting.com

An Amazing Curated Guide for Answering the Question "What should I do with my life?"
By Amazon Customer
When people get really serious about asking the question "So, what am I going to do with my life?" they ultimately learn that the answer doesn't come from one place. Sadly, there exists no great oracle of wisdom in the form of one person who can answer that question. (In fact, I would even say that three authors can't do it.)
But this is the genius of Roadmap, written by the founders of Roadtrip Nation. These guys have spent more than a decade asking the question, "What should I do with my life," on behalf of themselves, at first, and then on behalf of hundreds of young high school and college students, workers in transition, and even a few folks going through mid-career changes. The results are hundreds upon hundreds of hours of compelling video answering the question by a diverse array of people, personality types, creatives, concrete sequential thinkers, random romantics, linear thinkers, . . . you name it.
Who did they ask for wisdom?
Everyone.
They interviewed CEO's, artists, engineers, founders, editors, executive directors, comic book illustrators, and the list goes on and on and on.
These interviews form the backbone for 11 seasons of the PBS series "Roadtrip Nation." And if you have the time to sit down and watch all 11 seasons, I would highly recommend it. You will be greatly enriched.
But let's face it, most of us will never take the time to binge watch something this enriching. Which is why "Roadmap" is #TheOnlyBookYouNeed.
Roadmap provides a curated tour (by the founders of Roadtrip Nation) of the best of the best from the Roadtrip archives, built around the most important lessons learned by others, to help those who are seriously asking the question, "What am I going to do with my life?"
If that's you, then you should read this book. If you know someone who is asking that question (or should be), then get them a gift.
(It's probably no coincidence that this was released in time for graduation!)

I bought this book because I was familiar with and respected the work of Road Trip Nation. I figured I could gift it to some young person who was seeking career direction, or someone stuck in an unsatisfying job trying to find how to do something that they truly loved. I decided to give it a quick look before I passed it on. Wow, not only is it good advice, it's a great read: excellent graphics, fascinating stories from real life people, and easy to follow step by step activities to really make you think. Frankly, I'm not a fan of "self-help" books. They generally seem trite and formulaic. Road Map, on the other hand, is hip and very real, making it perfect for young people starting out (or even to a geezer like me). More than 40 years ago, I was fortunate enough to stumble into a career I really loved. If this book was around back then, the path would have been a lot easier.
Road Map would make a great graduation gift. Parents who worry their kids won't be amenable to parental advice (a kiss of death in some families), buy them a copy of Road Map. Lot's of people who are interviewed in the book are making their living doing exactly what your kid would love to do. Instead of thinking you're nagging them, they may actually wind up thanking you. The book would also be useful for folks seeking mid-career change. Years ago I read What Color is your Parachute. It was useful in finding a job. Road Map is more useful in that it doesn't just help you find a random job, it helps you find a career you'll love.

Required reading for liberal arts majors…and, frankly, everyone
By AMBrandt
Where was this book when I experienced my quarter-life crisis? This should be a must-read for all college seniors and people in their early 20s, and revisited every few years as a sort of recalibration exercise. I know that I benefitted greatly from reading this book well into my 30s.
I appreciate how the Roadtrippers move beyond the simple philosophical “do what makes your heart sing” route in this book. That approach is too often lauded as the solution to the internal tension that many individuals feel in their lives, but lacks the teeth needed to make a concrete change. Instead, the Roadtrippers provide those teeth: they articulate an actual process for self-reflection and making changes, coining some new terminology and posing mini-project challenges for the reader along the way.
Of note is that the Roadtrippers don’t deal in absolutes, thus avoiding a binary mindset that would propose only one way over all other choices. Rather, the book practices what it preaches, and maintains a consistent message throughout: be open to and supportive of the respective path for each individual, and help each person figure out what that is for him or her via an exploration of one’s underlying passions.
In addition to laying out the roadmap that will help individuals make their actions more congruent with their passions, the authors present a multitude of interviews with those who have applied the Roadmap approach to their own lives. The individuals featured in the book aren’t the usual suspects chosen to highlight alternative career and educational paths (e.g. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs). Rather, these interviews tell the stories of people from a range of backgrounds, passions, pursuits, and talents. I think it would be difficult to read this book and not feel as though you could see a piece of yourself reflected in the path that one of these individuals has taken. These stories are inspiring, and have the potential to help readers think outside the proverbial career box.
To be clear, this book isn’t exclusively about developing one’s passion into a career, though many of the examples and projects are more career-oriented, if anything. Overall, though, the book challenges us as readers to rethink the ideas of jobs, work, passion, hobbies, and how and why we spend our time as we do. This is an important and key addition to the repertoire of books on the topics of simplicity and happiness.
