Loved this hot and sexy read. The best kind of bad boy is an insatiable one. That's Mr. Michael Williams as he continues to love and cherish his bride to be, Jess Shakoor.

These two characters are so sweet and so in love with each other.

If you have read Bendis's Avengers, then you already have read these stories. During the pre-order phase, neither Marvel nor Amazon stated that this was a collection of OLD stories repackaged to capitalize on Netflix's fantastic tv series starring this drunken and financially strapped wash-up super hero turned private eye (spoiler: her life eventually improves).

The stories are very good - Brian Michael Bendis created Jessica Jones and turned her into a very compelling character that was quite well rounded. He supplied her with some of the most wonderful dialogue that Marvel offered up in the 00s (particularly in her scenes with Luke Cage...it's probably the best written romantic relationship in Marvel). This collection is disjointed though - it puts together a series of disparate stories.

If you like Jessica Jones, go read all three trades of Alias, every issue of the Pulse and Bendis's entire New Avengers run. You'll be pleased.

This throws in her appearances from the various Avengers books that she and Luke Cage made appearances in.

Personally my favorite has to do with her having a crush on teenaged Peter Parker when they were in high school and him not having a clue. It leads to some entertaining interactions between Spider-Man and Jessica Jones, and in other books Spider-Man and Luke Cage.

Best Available - Wish there were more

I use this text extensively in my woodwind class. The double reed sections are excellent. The saxophone section is fine, but a bit short on information. There are several inaccuracies in the flute section (scientific, historical), and our flute professor disagrees with the information on embouchure and technique. The clarinet section is also weak. The author has some strange ideas on teaching embouchure and other skills, and there are inaccuracies within this section as well.

I use this and have students make corrections and notes in their copies of this book since there is nothing better available. I would like to see an updated version with corrections made and more consistent organization of material for each of the woodwinds. I would also like to see the illustrations revised so that they are more accurate. (I like a lot of the information in the Westphal book that is its competitor, but the Westphal is dense reading and very, very old.)

Update: December 2010. Don't teach woodwind pedagogy at the moment, but I did replace this book with readings from various sources when I was teaching it in the spring. I was tired of the limitations of this book. There are two newer books on the market I recommend that might meet your needs:

Fine Overview, with few inaccuracies

Woodwind players are much like trumpet players' about their mouthpieces, or violinists' about their strings....each has an opinion. The separate authors who write the wwodwind chapters, also have their opinions, a few tricks and techniques that are not mainstream, but clearly would work for most people. The best Woodwind Technque book on the market.

Detailing the country’s refusal to offer aid, let alone sanctuary, to Jews fleeing Nazi persecution between 1933 and 1948, it is an immensely bleak and discomfiting story – and one that was largely unknown before the book’s publication.

Irving Abella and Harold Troper’s retelling of this episode is a harrowing read not easily forgotten: its power is such that, ‘a manuscript copy helped convince Ron Atkey, Minister of Employment and Immigration in Joe Clark’s government, to grant 50,000 “boat people” asylum in Canada in 1979, during the Southeast Asian refugee crisis’ (Robin Roger, The Literary Review of Canada). About the Author
Irving Abella is the J. Richard Shiff Chair for the Study of Canadian Jewry and a professor in the Department of History at York University.

Harold Troper is professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. The co-author of None is Too Many: Canada and the Jews (with Irving Abella), his most recent book is The Defining Decade: Identity, Politics, and the Canadian Jewish Community in the 1960s.

Book blew me away. Who knew that the Canadians were as disgusting and anti-Semitic as the Americans with NO regard for the lives of ANY of the adults and children that were begging to enter. There were the most ridiculous excuses as to why not to allow them to enter the empty country of Canada. Now I have an entirely different spin on Canada. Not a good one.

We should all keep up with history so it does not repeat itself. This is a fascinating account of Canada in the 1930s and 1940s. Every Canadian should know what happened.
