About the Author
Roberts Liardon is the founder of Spirit Life Bible College and the Embassy Ministerial Association in Irvine, California, and president of Roberts Liardon Ministries. He is also the founder of Embassy Christian Center in Orange County, which serves as a base for an expanding humanitarian work that includes assistance to the poor and needy in Southern California and throughout the world.Roberts Liardon received his call to ministry as an eight-year-old. Since then, he has diligently endeavored to follow that call through preaching and teaching God's Word. This is a book every serious Christian should read!

This is a book that every serious Christian should read, and perhaps read again. You will find that, unless you are already an advanced student of church history, you will learn much from this work. Some of the thoughts and opinions regarding men like Knox and even Calvin will be molded, not from what others have been saying but from facts. You'll be stirred when you read of the sufferings of the Quakers as well as of many of the other reformers and will better appreciate the liberty we still enjoy. It's an easy and exciting book to read and I enjoyed it immensely. I laughed, sometimes wanted to cry, and above all else, was greatly stirred!

Wonderful reading for novice of church history. I've often heard church history referred to in sermons of many preachers/pastors/evangelists. I've now had the opportunity to discover, through reading Liardon Roberts' series of the great patriarchs of the gospel, how God's glorious church ministries was handed down through the ages.

Wow, this was not my favorite book. I thought the documentation was interesting but there is so much personal narrative. It bogs the book down. I like to study and I felt the personal comments really slowed the reading and were a confusion. It was as if he author was trying to preach and write a historical book in one.

Personally the comments struck me as inappropriate. I felt talked down to.

I am not sure if I would purchase this again. One thing I did appreciate was that because he seems to ramble on at times facts that would typically be edited did give the book more of a insight to the people at the time. I am thinking of one bit he put in telling the reaction of the public to a teaching of one of the leaders. I found that interesting and think most books would have edited it out.

About the Author
Mordechai ('Motti') Inbari is the author of Jewish Fundamentalism and the Temple Mount: Who Will Build the Third Temple?, which won the American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise Best Publication Award in Israel Studies (2008) and the Ben Shemesh Best Dissertation Award for the Study of Zionism and the State of Israel (2007). His work has appeared in Israel Studies, Hebrew Union College Annual, Nova Religio, Modern Judaism, Journal of Church and State and Studies in Contemporary Jewry. Prior to his appointment at the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, he served as a Post-Doctoral Associate at the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University.

Important, but repetitive

This is the third book that I have read written by Robert Kiyosaki. Robert does outline some extremely important points about the future & some of the critical turning points in the USA's financial history.

The problem I have with his writing style is that he is highly repetitive. 75-90% of the content in his books cover the same material & therefore only 10-25% of all the content in his books have something original or new to convey. Even so, I highly recommend reading one of his books. If you are not familiar with Robert Kiyosaki, the following are some of his central themes: make money through cash flow, not capital gains, learn to be a salesman, use debt to make money, an asset is something that puts money into your pocket & a liability is something that takes money out of your pocket, do not work for money & instead be a businessman &/ an educated investor. Robert refers back to his experiences as a young person growing up with his poor Dad who was his real Dad & his rich Dad who was his best friend's Dad. I actually like that he does this & how he compares their philosophies towards money.

The 3 most important things that you will get out of this book are:

1. The US money supply has exploded since the global financial crisis which will most likely lead to hyperinflation.

2. The future US federal budget deficits will grow exponentially for at least the next 10 years primarily due to increased expenditure in social security, medicare & medicaid. This is due to the demographic problem of the baby boomers retiring.

3. mortgage interest rate resets will peak a second time in November 2011.

What this boils down to is financial turmoil this decade & dare I say it, for at least the next 2 after this one. Robert Kiyosaki harpers on about opportunities that arise from problems, however I do not see it that way. Robert focuses in on finance because that is what he is an expert on, however I would argue that he is not telling the full story because he isn't an expert in other fields.

The other important issues to look out for in the future are:

1. Global peak oil is most likely to occur in 2014 & we are hopelessly unprepared for it.

2. Food shortages due to 7 reasons (1 of which is biofuels) will occur this decade in many nations.

3. Global peak fresh water is most likely to occur in or around the year 2025, according to the UN.

Behind this back drop, I do not see opportunity, I see a malthusian trap.

Some of Robert's concepts that I can't get my head around are that you can create cash flow immediately from an investment property. I live in Australia & the median house price to median income ratio is between 7 & 9 depending in which major metropolitan area you live in & the interest rate is more or less average. Unless you have a large deposit, how can rent yield be larger than the interest payment plus a minute fraction of the principal plus expenses (e.g. insurance, water, land tax) minus depreciation? Also, if everyone tries to be a business owner & investor & everybody quits being an employee, how is all the work going to get done? I would love an explanation of these points.

I do highly recommend reading at least one of his books, any book will do. Robert does make you think differently about how to make money, the world we live in & economics. He is trying to create a paradigm shift in your mind. The world needs more people like him who challenge conventional wisdom & make us think. Thanks Robert.

It's ok. Positive but ok.

You know, I've read a lot of his books, I like positive people and I like Robert because he spreads positivity. I would recommend reading his books for that reason alone. But the older I get, I want more meat and potatoes out of my books. I read his books and they;re just so vague, it;s like he takes a long time to say something that could've been said one once sentence. Simple things are really embellished for along time and there are no real specifics. I want specifics these days- meat and potatoes. But that is really overkill, Robert deserves his success for being a positive guy. I really love his other authors though, lots of meat and potatoes there. I've bought and read about of those.

Excellent Resource!!

I am finishing up my dissertation - a qualitative case study - and this book was invaluable!! It really helped me logicall and thoughtfully assess my qualitative interview data. The text was easy to understand and will hold up against that dissertation committee review. I really can't recommended enough if you have any qualitative data to analyze. There are other good things in there as well for coding and general qualitative study methodology.

Excellent for Students who need to start Qualitative Data Analysis NOW

I bought this book because I needed to learn how to do qualitative data analysis IMMEDIATELY. Basically, a bunch of work got dumped on me (i.e. 75 pages of transcripted interviews) and I had to get started quickly.

This book is amazing because it focuses on DOING qualitative data analysis. It's a step-by-step guide to get from raw data to solid conclusions (which you can back up using your data). It provides just enough theory to let you know why you're doing what, without getting bogged down. Most importantly, it provides TONS of examples which make things much more concrete and helps with understanding.

There are several different ways to 'do' qualitative data analysis, and this book focuses on a single one. I like this since the book is more concise and the methods the authors use are solid and make intuitive sense.

Basically, I went from knowing nothing about qualitative data analysis to knowing enough to DO qualitative data analysis, just by reading this book. I found the writing style enjoyable and not overly academic, which again helps with comprehension and learning how to 'do'.

Literally, an answer to prayer!

I am working on a Doctor of Ministry degree and didn't know how to organize my survey data. Tried statistical (quantitative) criteria, such as "correlation coefficents" which only resulted in frustration and paralysis. This book showed me that what I'm doing is QUALITATIVE research. The difference: Quantitative research STARTS with a hypothesis that has to be "proved." Qualitative research takes results and PRODUCES a hypothesis, which then becomes one's thesis. The authors give researchers a "cookbook" method for crunching one's data, resulting in a narrative. Hugely helpful to completing my doctoral thesis! Highly recommend it for anyone working in non-scientific fields.

About the Author
Richard E. Mayer is Professor of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he has served since 1975. He is the author of Multimedia Learning (Cambridge University Press, 2001) and editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Multimedia Learning (Cambridge University Press, 2005). In 2008 he received the American Psychological Association's Distinguished Contributions of Applications of Psychology to Education and Training Award.

A classic

I read this text during my masters degree. It's nice to see the title is still around and going strong, with subsequent authors piggy-backing on many of the principles he introduces in this text. I have relied on the principles espoused in this text when considering how to design interactive courseware. I still refer to this classic book now and then as a refresher.

I'll be keeping this one.

Mayer discusses why his principles of design work by providing supporting research and even includes boundary conditions that may limit the success of a particular design principle. If it were me, I would probably have organized the chapters differently, but the information is good, regardless of the order. Definitely good for and Instructional Designer to reference.

Fantastic second edition

Mayer is the expert when it comes to multimedia and its relationship to learning. The first edition was fundamental in my studies on personalized narration in the online environment. Mayer presents information in a sensible, clear manner that is easy to follow and makes sense. I am excited to see a second edition and look forward to reading it cover to cover. I highly recommend anything by Richard Mayer--you will not be disappointed!
